AR accuracy and lighting tips

Lighting has the single biggest impact on how realistic and accurate AR try-on looks. A few simple adjustments can transform the experience from flat to lifelike.

Best lighting conditions

  • Natural daylight is ideal — face a window with the light source in front of you, not behind.
  • Soft indoor lighting — a ring light or diffused lamp at face level works well.
  • Avoid mixed lighting (e.g., a warm lamp and a cool overhead light at the same time), which can throw off colour matching.

Other tips for better accuracy

  • Ensure your face is well lit and there are no strong shadows across it.
  • Hold your device at eye level and keep it steady.
  • If the overlay flickers or drifts, tap the screen to re-anchor the face tracking.
  • Clean your front camera lens — smudges reduce depth-sensor accuracy.

If you are using a supported device and still getting poor results, check that no other camera-intensive apps are running in the background. For persistent issues, email [email protected].
